Transfer to another university in China, do you have the same question? After studying at a university for one or several semesters, some students want to study at another university for different reasons. What you need to do

Student transfer is the anticipated movement students consider between education providers and the related institutional processes of a student who offer the same program and of the same level of the year.

The transfer student must apply for the same program if he wants to transfer to another university. The transfer requirement is set by the university to which the international students want to transfer. Basic, the international student should supply his syllabus, description of the class he had taken, and detailed material according to the requirements of the university he wants to go to. Once his materials were satisfied with the demands of the university, to some degree he will be admitted to the university. 

1. Contact universities directly

The best way to find out about transfers is to speak directly to the admissions or faculty at your new university. Have the admissions team review your transcripts and syllabus from your current university to determine your status as a transfer student, so there will be no misunderstandings about your studies. 

2. Consider several universities as backup

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket — submitting applications to a few universities won’t hurt in case your first choice falls through. 

3. Inform your current university

Let your university in China know of your intentions to transfer. You’ll need your transcripts, and likely one or two letters of recommendation from your instructors to vouch for your application. Some documents explaining course content and syllabus from the faculty would help in assessing transfers in your new university. 

4. Maintain a good academic standing

This step doesn’t require any paperwork but is nonetheless important in your application process. You’re essentially applying to a new university all over again, and good grades go a long way in making your case for successful admission, especially if you’re aiming for a selective and high-ranking university. 

Two general concerns from Chinese universities

The reason for transfer. Is your reason for the transfer valid? Is the student on good terms with the previous university? Do they approve of the transfer?

Acceptance of course credits. What subjects have this student taken? How far along is he/she in her program? What is the credits equivalent to? Will the student be able to keep up?

Because of these reasons, most Chinese universities do not process transfer students. Another layer of complexity is that your current university must accept your request to transfer, especially for students on scholarships who are not able to finish their program. The receiving university must accept the transfer request by analyzing if the credits and courses match or not. In the end, you will need the approval and consultation of two schools. 

Documents you can prepare

Each program at any Chinese university has its requirements for entry. Before you start your application for transfer, you should know the entry requirements carefully make sure that you can meet the requirements and provide copies of the relevant documents. Transfer students need to provide the agreement certificate from the two universities.

Although there’s no guarantee, there are some things that you can do for the new university to acknowledge your transfer request. Here are some of them:

A formal letter clearly explaining the reason and answer to the above questions.

A consent letter from the previous university to say that they approve your transfer.

An official transcript of records to show courses that you have taken so they can be evaluated.

You may also need detailed syllabi from your courses, or other materials.

Maintain good grades

In addition to all required documents, the medical transfer student must include also a copy of the original transcript of records, confirming the year of study, issued by the university in which the applicant has studied, presenting the following information: course title; the workload of all studied courses (the number of lectures, practices, and seminars) for each course taken, the final examination mark in each subject; the grading system in the respective universities, and financial guarantee for the payment of tuition fee and other related fees.

Special attention

1. Do transfer as early as possible. Universities in China prefer lower-grade students. The earlier you contact to apply, the more successful your transfer will be.

2. Don't easily trust commercial agencies, whose recommendations are unreliable. Sometimes, the recommended schools by those commercial agencies abroad are not qualified to offer high-quality MBBS programs. 

Ultimately, there is no foolproof method that can ensure a successful transfer university in China. Therefore, if international students want to transfer to another university, they must contact the university early and figure out the requirements of the university, which will be a better guarantee for transfer successfully.
