IRIMC and Iran's Latest Policy for Students Studying in China

Abbas Ali Wafaei, the cultural counselor of the Iranian Embassy in China, said in an interview that the number of Iranian students studying in China has been on the rise in recent years as the friendly relations between Iran and China continue to deepen. At present, the total number of Iranian students in China has exceeded 3,000. There are already 20 Iranian studies research centers in China studying Iranian culture. Fourteen Chinese universities have opened Persian majors. However, with the development of the epidemic, many Iranian students studying in China and planning to study in China pay more attention to Iran's latest policy for students studying in China, We have consulted relevant materials through IRIMC, contacted local teachers in Iran, and interviewed two Iranian students studying at China Medical University. Finally, we have summarized Iran’s latest policy on internship issues and the effectiveness of online courses for your reference and hope that they will be really helpful to you.

1. Policy for Students Wishing to Study in Chinese Universities

So MBBS + BDS + pharmacy students who want to apply for studying in China need to follow these requirements:

- They need to study in universities that are existing on the list of 56 Chinese medical universities approved by Iran.

- They need to pass HSK 2 with 120 scores(How to Take the Mock Chinese Test for Free: Free Online HSK Test).

- They need to start their study offline not online.

If they follow these policies and obtain their degree from Chinese universities, after an examination in Iran (after their graduation), they can start to work in Iran as a doctor or dentist, or pharmacists. To practice medicine in Iran, registration with IRIMC and a license to practice are needed. For foreign graduates, it is needed their primary medical qualification to be approved by the Iranian Ministry of Health (MOH).

The good news is China maybe start to let Iran students come back in small groups like 100 students, the first list that they announced probably was full of 2021 and 2020 batch students instead of final year students and they were mostly from Zhengzhou university. All the 100 students will receive an email for preparing to back to China, the content of the email includes some information:

-Name and family name

-Passport No.

-Major and academic degree

-University and city location

-Time of graduation

-Whether to get the Covid-19 vaccine(number and brand)

-Have you ever been infected with Covid-19, if you have been infected, please provide a specific time.

-Are you willing to abide by the Chinese government’s epidemic prevention regulations? Are you willing to pay for the fee of isolation?

But maybe it’s not for a new student who wants to apply for the 2022 September intake, because there are too many students from different universities in China that are willing to back to China including students who have clinical classes in the 4th or 5th year, so the students who willing to apply for September intake will not be on priority.

2. Policy on Whether to Certify Online Courses of Chinese Universities

The first case of COVID-19 in Iran was officially reported by the Iranian government on February 19th, 2020. To control the rate of infection, the government decided to close all universities and schools, the university had to continue medical education through online education. But it is not the online courses, it’s semi offline, that is to say, some courses that needed students to attend online, other courses are offline. But 1st and 2nd-year students don’t need to attend online courses. Since Spring 2022, all schools including primary schools and even kindergartens become offline courses in Iran.

The latest policy is that if China’s border will be closed for next semester (September enrollment), the degree that students obtain by their study online will not be acceptable to the IRIMC.

If students start offline classes but transfer to online courses due to the epidemic, there is no problem, they are allowed to have 2 years (1/3 of their study duration) of online classes, but their internship should be offline. However, if they start online courses whether they obtain a degree or not, it’s will not be acceptable for IRIMC.

3. Policy for Students Who are Already Studying in China and are Unable to Conduct Offline Internships in China due to Epidemic

If you are a student who already studying in China, you are not allowed to intern in Iran, you can choose to go to other countries. What’s more, boys in Iran also have to leave the country by this coming September or go to military services for 2 years and leave their studies.

For students who study at Iranian universities, it’s no problem to intern in Iran, but there is no allowance from the hospitals for students who are in their 5th year to spend their internship in Iran. Maybe some countries accept students for internship classes but in Iran, there is no allowance from the hospitals, and students in the 5th and last year of clinical courses still practice behind their laptops.

It’s not needed to be registered with IRIMCto undertake an internship in Iran. Upon completion of medical school (including eighteen months of Internship) and successfully submitting a dissertation in Iran, MD is awarded to medical doctors. The final MD Diploma is issued after the internship.
