The Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK), or translated as the Chinese Proficiency Test, is the standardized test of Mandarin Chinese language proficiency of China for non-native speakers such as foreigners and overseas Chinses. 

The HSK test, analogous to the English TOEFL, is hosted by the Hanban, an agency of the Ministry of Education of China. It aims to be a certificate of language proficiency for higher education and professional purpose. 

In the Chinese scholarship application, an HSK certificate with outstanding results is specifically required.
