Peking University is a comprehensive university located in Haidian District, Beijing. As one of the founding members of ‘Project 985’, the national government program which seeks to develop an elite tier of world-class universities in China, it is regarded as one of the best universities in China and attracts talented students from around the country and the world.

Peking University was founded in 1898 as Beijing Normal University, the first national comprehensive university in China and the highest educational administrative organ in China at that time. After the Xinhai Revolution, it was renamed to its present name in 1912.
