Academic background
I have completed my bachelor graduation in Communication Sciences from Instituto Superior Politecnica (ISPU) now called A Politécnico, Maputo, in September 2005, with 14 out of 20 overall course score and 15 out of 20 final for my thesis project score. I was a very inquisitive active student involved in several curricular and non-curricular activities. In fact I was honored as the as the best whole university junior bachelor Communication Sciences student, Maputo, 2003 graduation ceremony. In 2005 honors bachelor graduation ceremony I was among top 3 Communication Sciences graduates. My graduation thesis was on Direct Marketing. In April 2005 I was one of the 4 students selected among students from several universities to take part of the top talent British American Tobacco’s on the job Management Trainee Program and while completing the train I found strong motivation to learn more about basic theories, concepts, terminology, and uses of macroeconomics. I was 1 of 2 out of 4 completed the training.
Regarding my personality, I am not socially extraordinarily active but I am friendly and have been blessed with lots of friends. I love sports as I do basketball, martial arts and soccer whenever possible. I am also involved in politics as the person responsible for mobilization in my area of jurisdiction as determined by the country’s ruling party (Frelimo). I strive to leave by the word of god and always do my best to honestly be available to help whoever requires my help.
I grew up with a lot of people asking me to help them fulfill their most basic needs such as bread on a daily basis. A large part of them were street people who became friends of mine, after hundreds of days looking at each other every morning. Thanks to god, have been always able to share a slice of bread, pieces of cloth and love but I was never able to do something that could significantly change their lives. I’ve actually helped a friend of mine to open a small soccer academy recently, targeting underprivileged people. We started with 50 kids. My personal objective was to ensure social integration for street kids like the ones I grew up with. My role was to use my car to transport the kids to the games and also finance snacks for the kids during the games using my scarce financial resources. I was answering to my inner drive and duty.
Nevertheless, my very strong believe is that the leaving conditions of Mozambicans can only improve if we invest on turning our country weaknesses into opportunities for a large variety of small and medium competitive business that ensure employment and self-sustainability. For example, given the shortage of public transport I’ve tried to put together a project to introduce 3 wheel pedicabs also called rickshaw business.




Detailed study plan: I would like to apply for a Master Degree in Economics, and learn more about industrial economy and macroeconomics. My last job as Sales Manager and of Head of Auto Business also gave me a better perspective of how important It is to understand the economics dynamics for any industry. My main objective is to understand how to improve the economics reading skills especially under these difficult times that the country is going through and ensure a better positioning and planning.
My second objective with the studies is to change people’s leaving conditions through my so far narrowed understanding of inclusive growth and entrepreneur business development skills. I would like to be in a position to use improved skills to be able to identify and create business opportunities for small and medium industries that can have a positive impact in the social integration of talented but non-highly qualified people in Mozambique.
I’ve studied Communication Sciences with emphasis for Marketing. My idea on completing the Masters studies in China is that it will give me better skills to use China’s large investments pipeline or influence the local government once I return to my country, to motivate their support for incubation of small and medium industries opportunities through share of know-how and financial support as well. I believe that the strong credibility the Peking University program will help me to achieve that goal.
I have in mind that during my first year I will study Advanced Microeconomics, Introduction to Chinese Economy and applied Econometrics, Business Ethics and Research Methodology and Advanced Macroeconomics 1. I may need to do business math as don’t study math for long time now. The second year will be more dedicated to independent studies
Reasons to study in China: while reading about China and also having some friends that travelled to China, I was very impressed with China’s industrial development in terms of variety of industries. China represents a great opportunity engage with all sorts of industries. My special interest is Beijing as it is Chinas political, cultural and educational center. Beijing is a rapidly developing metropolis longing for various exchanges with other countries in this increasingly globalizing world. I’ve selected Peking University based on a very positive testimonial given by cousin’s wife Dora Chipande, who is studying there.
All these reasons put together make China an ideal place for me to do my Master’s degree.
