I have decided to study in China for a variety of reasons. First of all, it is of great importance to me to study Traditional Chinese Medicine in the country of its origin and to therefore gain an authentic insight into how this ancient knowledge is applied in present medical practice. Living in China would also give me an incomparable opportunity to improve my Chinese language skills, which I hope will enable me to read and study classical texts on TCM one day. Moreover, as someone who is striving for personal growth, I look forward to studying and living alongside people of a different cultural background, I look forward to learning from them and hope that I will thus be able to broaden my own horizon. Furthermore, studying in China would not only fulfil my longing for adventure but also help me gain invaluable life experiences. It would give me the chance to immerse myself in a culture and country that, to me, is both foreign and incredibly fascinating in that it is a country where the past seemingly meets the future. Shanghai is a great example of this convergence, a multifaceted, cosmopolitan city of superlatives where the rich traditions of ancient China still live on. I would be glad to study in the heart of Shanghai and have chosen the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for a number of reasons. Since the university was founded over sixty years ago as one of the first TCM colleges in China, is affiliated with a number of hospitals and enjoys a remarkable reputation, I trust that I will receive a high-quality education by studying here. I also appreciate that SHUTCM encourages the internationalization of TCM and aims to therefore contribute to the wellbeing of people around the world. The TCM Bachelor program at SHUTCM sparked my interest because of its multisided curriculum, which, apart from general medical and TCM-specific courses, includes a variety of practices such as Acupuncture, Tuina and Herbal Medicine as well as courses on Chinese language.
