Now CCOM has become an institution of higher learning producing high-level music professionals and the only art academy in China funded by “Project 211”. It has departments of composition, conducting, musicology, piano, orchestral instruments, traditional Chinese instruments and voice and opera, schools of music education, orchestra, long-distance learning and continuing education, an affiliated high school, a violin-making center as well as Music Research Institute---a Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences under the Ministry of Education. It has an enrollment of 2206 students, including 1543 undergraduates and 663 postgraduates. As the music education center, the music research center, the composition and performance center, as well as the music popularization center of China, CCOM represents the best professional music education in this the country featuring a whole array of disciplines, which has won a high reputation for itself both at home and abroad.
CCOM is admired by music lovers from all over the world. Over 70 years since its founding, the conservatory has established its powerful faculty and administrative staffs. At the same time, many experts and scholars stand out for their great contributions to teaching and research. All these have attracted tens of thousands young and promising students, including hundreds of international students, most of whom have become well-known composers, performers, musicologists, music educators and directors or excellent employees of cultural and art institutions at home and abroad. CCOM combines elements of Chinese folk music with those of other countries and nationalities. It also encourages academic freedom, thus creating a lively atmosphere. Now, it aims at catching up with the international standards of music education so as to build a world-class conservatory.
