Shanghai Jiao Tong University is one of the most famous Chinese institutions of higher education with the longest history and reputation at home and abroad. It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and jointly built with Shanghai. In the 1920s and 1930s, the university has become a well-known institution of higher education in China, known as "Oriental MIT". After 125 years of unremitting efforts, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has become a domestic first-class and internationally renowned university, and further defined the vision and goal of building a "comprehensive, innovative and international" world-class university at a new historical node.

Fudan University is a world-famous and domestic top comprehensive research university. Fudan University ranks 40th in the world in QS World University ranking and ranks 3rd in domestic universities.
The education of foreign students in China is an important aspect of Fudan University's internationalization strategy. Fudan University is one of the first universities to accept foreign students after the founding of new China. Since 1952, it has trained more than 50000 foreign students. At present, Fudan University ranks among the top comprehensive universities in China. About 7000 foreign students study in Fudan University every year, from more than 130 countries or regions. There are 39 programs taught in English in the university, including 2 undergraduate degree programs, 23 master's degree programs, and 14 doctoral degree programs.

Donghua University is one of the national "211 Project" universities and the national "Double First-class" construction university. Adhering to the motto of "advocating morality, erudition, ambition, and reality", the university has developed into a multi-disciplinary and high-level university with distinctive characteristics with the advantages of textile, materials, clothing, and design.
Donghua University began to recruit foreign students in 1954. It is one of the first universities to recruit foreign students. With a history of over 110 years, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) has many distinctive features. As a key university included in the “Double First-class Initiative” of Shanghai, it is co-sponsored by the State Administration of Science, Technology, and Industry for National Defense and the Municipal Government of Shanghai. Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU) is a multi-disciplinary applied research-based institution of higher education jointly established by Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, State Oceanic Administration, and the Ministry of Agriculture. In August 2017, SHOU was identified as the first one of the deepen innovation and entrepreneurship education reform universities in Shanghai. In September, SHOU has be selected in the list of the first China’s "Double-First class" world-class courses constructed universities.
