Anhui Normal University began to recruit self funded foreign students in China since 1986 and began to receive Chinese Government Scholarships students in 1988. It is one of the first batch universities in China to be allowed to recruit foreign students at public expense. In 2011, it was approved as the first "HSK" test center for foreigners' Chinese proficiency test in the province.
