So I’ve got a 2016 A3 1.8 TFSI and lately the gearbox has been feeling really jerky in stop-and-go traffic, especially when it’s scorching outside. It shudders when pulling away from a standstill and sometimes feels like it hesitates before engaging second gear. I’ve read that the DSG can be sensitive to heat and that the mechatronics unit or clutch wear might be the culprit, but I’m not entirely sure. I’m in Dubai and the traffic + summer heat is brutal, so I want to get ahead of any major failure before I’m stuck on the side of Sheikh Zayed Road. Has anyone else experienced this with their Audi? I’m trying to get a better handle on understanding how Audi DSG transmission systems operate to figure out if it’s the clutch packs or the mechatronic unit that needs attention. I’ve seen mentions of the DQ250 and DQ381 gearboxes and how they use wet clutches – does that make them more resilient or is it just a different set of problems? Really hoping it’s not a full rebuild situation, but I’d appreciate any advice from those who’ve been through this before I take it to a shop here in the UAE.
