Learning at Nanjing Medical University is far from home and I believe that this an advantage. It is easy to become comfortable in our environments but I have the thirst for learning something new. As a student growing up in a country with a history of a western influence and English as an official language I find it hard to think in my own language especially seeing how western culture has quickly been integrated into our country. I noted that Chinese culture is much alive and is thriving, being exposed to such an environment will enable me to appreciate my own culture and heritage similarly. Also it is a benefit to be exposed to western teaching styles as it encourages me to imagine myself as part of the world rather than a continent or a country. Understanding of most cultures will allow me to become a better doctor. The world grows smaller by the day and my pride stems from the fact that I am part of a generation that has the option of studying medicine in the People’s Republic of China. In future at a Chinese University I plan to excel and become a hard-working and tenacious doctor who can simply help others irrespective of who they are and their beliefs. As I would’ve expanded on my ability to relay my academic knowledge into practical information.
