MOTIVATION FOR APPLYING FOR CUCAS NAME: EDWIN LWEIKIZA MARTIN Dear Admission Committee, First I would like to express my appreciation for this opportunity to apply for CUCAS Student Services Team. I am a graduate of the University of Dodoma holding a Bachelor of Science in applied Geology degree. With the background knowledge and skills I have in Geology; I strongly feel that the PGD/MSC Environment sciences, mineral prospecting and exploration, oil and gas development and Geo-Information Science &Earth Observation will be very useful to my practice back here in Tanzania. The course will equip me with the relevant skills and knowledge to discharge my day to day duties as a Geologist at the survey and my country at large. As per Geological Survey of Tanzania (GST) Vision Statement, 'to become one of the leading customers oriented Geo-scientific Centre of excellence in Africa in providing national Geo-scientific data and information at international standards. Therefore GST requires a highly motivated, skilled and knowledgeable staff's to achieve such a wonderful vision. I hope I will contribute a lot in achieving the GST vision and mission. GST is the government agency whose role is to achieve the national goals and strategies through its duties and responsibilities (acquisition and dissemination of Geo-scientific data). Therefore, as I am a GST staff I will play similar role while achieving the national goals particularly in sustainable mineral exploitation and development When I return in Tanzania; first and foremost I will be able to plan, coordinate, manage and implement various Geo-scientific projects at GST which will involve research in Geo-scientific information that are useful in creation of investment opportunities to my country, hence resource exploitation and wealth maximization. However resource exploitation is to go hand in hand with environmental conservation and sustainability. Owing to limited resources I have not been able to proceed with further studies here in Tanzania or elsewhere as I lack the necessary funds. I would be grateful to be provided with sponsorship to further my education and build a career and Chinese scholarship will be massively helpful. Additionally, the course will expose me to diverse professionals and cultural backgrounds drawn from all over the world. Hence I would become a global potential professional in executing my duties as a Geologist. Furthermore am disabled due to an accident I have gotten during practical training so you will be grateful for helping me as my career toward to get a job. Finally, I am determined to make the most out of the scholarship benefits. I will optimize my stay at the Chinese’s Universities to gain wealth of ideas that will apply when I return to my country Tanzania Once again I am grateful for considering my application and I look forward to a favorable reply
