STATEMENT OF PURPOSE I believe the world would be a better place if research is geared towards meeting the needs of humanity followed by effective implementation of outcomes derived from such careful scientific investigations by universities and research institutions. In light of this, I have decided to build a career in science, to be among a community of researchers investigating new ways to promote healthy coexistence between human activities and the environment This has motivated me to study Master's Degree in Environmental Engineering at the China University of Geosciences, Wuhan. With the knowledge, skills, I obtained from studying BSc Mineral Engineering coupled with the past experience acquired as Teaching and Research Assistant from the University of Mines and Technology, I have come to know the vast practical applications with issues of the environment (for example in the large and small scale mining companies in Ghana); thus caught my attention and created a thirst of knowledge in me to study my chosen programme. My motivation is to work in an international field related to Environmental Engineering. Therefore, I would like to gain deeper theoretical and practical knowledge in starting and managing most innovative projects in the environment (in the areas of waste water treatment and management, occupational health and safety, environmental issues relating to mining etc.). During my studies, with great proven abilities in myself I will try to come up with the best of everything; to collaborate with professors and university colleagues in carrying out research and exploring new ideas in the field of Environmental Environment. After completion of my master’s studies I hope to be able to use the knowledge and experienced gained to assist and impact my country and maximizing my country’s research technology in such fields to benefit its economy and enhance their living standards. I believe that my goal of study cannot be achieved without proper time management. For this reason I will combine proactive and enthusiastic attitude with strong time and project management skills to achieve my goal of study. I believe communication is a major key for my study in China. I will take the Chinese language courses seriously to understand and appreciate it and enable me communicate well to the people of China. I vehemently believe that this Master’s Program will provide me with the opportunity to get to know how to deal with environmental issues and affiliates me dedicatedly to the industries, which is one of the challenging areas for exploring new ideas. I hope that I can gain more experience in dealing with situations, peoples and the environment which will be of a great help in my future career. Reasons to study in China: The question now arises, “Why study Masters in China?” Watching the news and documentaries, reading books, hearsays, analyzing and observing the people of China, I am really impressed by the way these individuals have proved themselves to be dedicated to their work and with true efforts they have set China as a successful example for other third world or developed countries. The fast growing economy, technological advancement and the global ranking education institutes of China with high reputation makes a great aspiration to the students and professionals for the better career perspectives. This kind of positivity has raised my confidence further and I am highly convinced with the decision I have taken. Moreover, with the different China’s cultural norms and values, the gentle friendliness of its people, the cordial relationship they have with Ghana make me feel China as my second home country; also my family fully supports my choice for China being my preference for graduate studies. All these reasons put together make China an ideal place for me to do my Master’s degree. I believe with high hopes that this application will receive your favorable consideration and financial support. Thank you. I look forward to receiving your reply. Kwaku Boateng Owusu.
