Why I want to apply to Medical School in China? I want to study Medicine in China, because of the impact being made globally by China in medical research in recent times, which is both unprecedented and revolutionary in nature. I want to learn in a fast paced and innovative environment that is going to push me to be the best I can be, in a University that is at the forefront of research and teaching modern Medicine. Moving to a new country, with the opportunity of vast and varied exposure to a different culture and language is something I am very excited about, as I have moved and integrated many times in my life, including from the UK to Canada when I was 11 years old. I believe that migrating so often, has helped teach me to be unafraid of challenges, to recognise the value of seeking out knowledge beyond my comfort level, of being objective and self reliant when it is required, as well as to effectively adapt with my environment. I have learnt to exercise discipline, to utilize organizational skills and problem solve in a timely manner, I enjoy making new friends, I can maintain dedicated focus which I believe is vital in helping me adapt to the tough road ahead, in becoming a world-class doctor. My own passion for Medicine came from an unlikely place, as even though my father is a noted Physician, I had not always thought of following in his footsteps. I have always been attracted to helping those in need, I was an active executive member of ACT, an anti-Racism program during high school and President of Best Buddies, a program integrating people of intellectual or developmental disabilities into society, so I had consistent exposure to physical and mental pain and suffering, the impact of abuse and the need and benefit of effective intervention. I was able to take on a constructive leadership role and to develop objective empathy and communication prowess through engaged listening and observation. My extensive volunteer work with various charities, including Cancer Research and Humanity First have also helped to hone my skills in managing priorities and setting deadlines, working as a team and effective information gathering. I am a diligent and focused hard worker, I strive to stay strong in mind, body and spirit. I have been awarded academic achievement awards for maintaining honor roll from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association of Canada and provincial community awards from Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan and Regina Multi-Faith Forum for my work as a youth ambassador. My work in Kinesiology further helped me to discover my chosen life path, when I realized that the major causes of death and severe illness are preventable, this propelled me to seek out the best way for me to contribute towards my community. Medicine is unique in that it affects everyone, regardless of age, sex, economic and educational background. It is a constantly evolving, dynamic process and my choice of career when I understood that the true role of modern Medicine is to increase not only the duration of life but also to improve the quality of life of the people it serves. I truly look forward to enhancing my knowledge of Medicine in a global community and making lifelong friends in China.
