My desire to study civil and commercial law developed initially from my genuine interest in the justice system. Since the 2008 financial credit crunch, I started to understand how the impact of regulations and laws on national economics and its importance in maintaining sustainable economic growth. It is time to have new regulations and laws to restore the faith in those multinational financial institutions and direct business ethics through regulations.

I also have a keen interest in commercial law and am extremely attracted to pursuing a career within this field. Commercial law is dynamic and constantly changing, adapting to the modern global economy, and it would therefore challenge me with intellectually stimulating work. With more and more economic interaction between China and Canada, specialists who have knowledge about commercial law of both countries are in demand. The difference in cultures and legal origins require us to have cultural backgrounds in both countries. As an ambitious young graduate who was born in China and get educated in Canada, I can take full advantage of my background and serve these firms in the future.

I believe that I could be successful in the legal profession, as I have the necessary range of skills such as problem solving, communication and independent thinking. Throughout my school life I have worked extremely hard, and this can be reflected in my results of my academic performance, and I achieved A or even better in most courses. Also, I have a lot of experiences related with financial regulation and law enforcement, which help me to be familiar with commercial law for my future graduate study.

By completing undergraduate program at University of British Columbia, one of the best university in the world, I will be completely equipped to continue my graduate study for the next step. I have taken economics, Asian studies and Chinese language as my major fields for my undergraduate program. From economics, I have learned the basic principle of economic behaviours and economic regulation. When market fails, we need government intervention through regulation or law to make sure that efficient outcomes can be achieve and social justice should be obeyed. From Asian studies and Chinese literature, I have learned Asian culture and Chines heritage, which further motivate me to continue my graduate study in China. Also, the training in Chinese language makes sure that I can understand the concept of law accurately in both Chinese and English.

I also have important working experience and volunteering experience which help me to become a professional and has helped me to acquire intellectual foundations for my future graduate studies. As an assistant for Wenxi Credit Union, I have familiar with financial regulatory polices in China. I was responsible for opening accounts and preparing legal forms for the clients, and make sure credit policies were abided by in the process of our business. On the other hand, I have similar experience when acting as a founder of ZK Creation Ltd. as I was responsible for registering business license and obtaining business permits for our start-up. I have learned the policy related business incubator and accelerator in Canada.

I want to help bridge the gap of commercial law between the western world and China. Due to different legal origins, each legal system has its own strong point and weak point. With With more and more Chinese firms expanding their business into the global world, they need legal service to help them comply with business procedure in the western world. Different from western culture, Confucianism is the dominant culture in China and Confucians believe that legislation, administration and adjudication of modern law should be analyzed in the lens of moral principle. Thus, the cornerstone of Chinese commercial laws has to follow the following three factors: heavenly order, legal code of the nation and human relations.

In the long run, I want use my expertise to change current legal system by taking advantage of strong points of both legal systems. Sun Yat-Sen University is one of the best universities in China and I can receive systematic training through its rigorous curriculum design. I will bring not only maturity and seriousness to your academic community, but also experience and diversity to the student body due to my unique experience. I look forward with great eagerness to my time with Civil and Commercial Law, the next chapter of my life, and I firmly believe that my professional human relations and volunteer work has prepared me for this great opportunity and profound challenge. I thank you for your time and consideration.
