After a two-year working experience collaborating with Mandarin-speaking colleagues, I decided to learn Chinese. I started a Master’s in Sinology in Brussels in 2013 and fell in love with Chinese language and culture.

In Belgium, Beijing Foreign Studies University enjoys a high reputation in all people interested in Chinese language, culture and diplomacy. Besides, as a graduate in International Relations having worked in two separate diplomatic representations over the past six years, I am genuinely interested in BFSU’s worldwide recognition as a specialist research university affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Moreover, as the child of a Vietnamese father and a Rwandan mother who grew up in Europe, I am confident that I would fit with the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the university. I believe I will benefit from getting to know students from various cultural backgrounds and improve my knowledge of Chinese culture and society. I am also greatly impressed the extensive range of language studies you offer.

My ultimate objective is to become a specialist of China’s external relations with the world, especially with Africa. Two of my articles were recently published in the Global Times, and I hope that I will have the occasion to publish more analysis on the subject in the future.

Beijing Foreign Studies University seems to be the ideal place for me to reach this goal. If I am accepted luckily, in addition to doing my best to become fluent in Chinese, I will get in touch with society extensively and learn as much as possible about China.
