I appreciate the opportunities and generosity that China offers to all international students. The Sun Yat-Sen University was the institution where my maternal grandfather and grandmother received their medical degrees in year 1968. This institution is moving forward for scientific and technological advances from the biomedical research laboratory into actual patient care practices. My research also indicates that this University has established co-operation in medical education and research with Johns Hopkins University where my father received his Master of Science degree in 1993. For many summers, my grandfather took me to this University; we played football and had lunch with his classmates there. He is proud of graduating from Sun Yat-Sen University. From here, he formed strong bond with many friends and colleagues. Their friendships are still going strong after all these years. Yet, my grandfather had another love in the Sun Yat-Sen University-- football. For him, there are so many wonderful memories from this magical place! Like my grandfather, I am athletics. I grew up playing volleyball under the supervision of Coach Zhou Xiaolan (former Chinese Olympic gold medalist). She is my hero in sports and other aspects of life. Coach Zhou taught me how to be humble, respectful, and being a team player. I also developed leadership skills in coaching younger sportsmen. I have been assisting Coach Zhou Xiaolan since 2012, and received my official coaching license in 2016. Since then, I helped coaching a couple of young sportsmen teams. It will be a privilege and great honor for me and family that I study in Sun Yat-Sen University.
