Albert Einstein once said, “Concern for man and his fate must always form the chief interest of all technical endeavors. Never forget this in the midst of our diagrams and equations.” This saying was always reiterated by my grandfather who was Einstein’s great admirer. He was a strong believer of change and was always with the hope that I would someday bring about a change in the fate of my country. When other kids played with stones for the fun of it, I played with stones to sharpen my numerical skills. When other kids sat at the feet of their grey hair grandfathers at night, to listen to folklores, I sat at the feet of mine listening to the great exploits and unforgettable inventions of scientists whose names have been etched on the marbles of fame. It is no wonder that I grew up being so creative and imaginative, constantly thinking of different ways to solve problem and a new approach to pre-existing difficulties. Puzzles became my best friend, books on mathematics, analytical thinking became a daily companion and my plastic building blocks never left my sight, as I was constantly building and rearranging. When it was time to make a choice of career, I could only be an Engineer and so I began my journey towards change at age 10. At the age of 13, I was officially accepted into the JETS club in my school, making me the youngest member in the school’s history. For me, this was a rare opportunity and a life changing acknowledgment. I identified a problem in my society and as much as paradoxical as it seems, I realized our blessing was a bane in Nigeria. Our source of great wealth- Crude Oil, kills us daily, in as much as it brings in revenue and as serves as a foreign exchange product. After in depth research, I realized that the source of death, majorly caused by oil spillage is constantly as a result of our corroded pipelines and the errors in construction. It was time to make a change by being in the field and not on the sidelines. Having undergone an undergraduate study in Civil Engineering at the Premier University of Ibadan, my crave for knowledge to be a solution to the problem of poor pipeline design and instillation, and seeing how my discipline in Civil Engineering and early knowledge of building and planning installation of structures can help in environmental engineering has pushed me to take a step further in actualizing my hope of bringing about a new dawn and I hope to achieve this by focusing on solving the pressing economic problems in Nigeria In China University of Beijing , I hope to elevate my background knowledge in construction and gain additional knowledge as regards the environmental engineering and all that encompasses it, and this would go a very long way in improving my country Nigeria as a whole. With my experience as a Supervising Project Engineer in one of the notable leading construction firms , Newton Development Authority (NTDA), at the Country’s largest and most popular commercial hub, Lagos, Nigeria and a member of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, I have been able to develop my communication skills, presentation skills, analytical and problem solving skills. I have worked cooperatively with people in a team and have also been in a position of leadership. I am confident that I would be of great value to the University when accepted and you can rest assured of a guarantee in positive attitude, valuable engagements and land mark contributions by me.. Time has evolved and for my country to regain her economic sanity and strength, security assurance and safety has necessitated my objective to pursue a Master’s degree at the China University of Beijing , to further gain knowledge on construction in this area and find a lasting solution to this pressing problem in the environmental sector in my country. I strongly believe that the Master’s program in your institution would put me at a vantage position to garner a wealth of knowledge necessary to bring restoration to my country and adding great value to the society at large. I look forward to meeting and working with the amazing lecturers, whose research would be an added advantage and also of greater knowledge. Thank you.
