The success of a country rests more on having first-class human resources, with the competences and abilities required to drive socio economic development in this new knowledge-based economy. Building first-class human capital begins with providing young children with access to quality early learning opportunities, yet very few staff at University of Malawi have been trained in primary teaching at postgraduate level.

My main objective is to acquire advanced research skills, a clear understanding of pedagogical issues, superior analytical skills and maximum independence in academic and consultative work in early years education. I anticipate the proposed qualification will give me an opportunity to interact with senior academics in research, pedagogical issues and curriculum development in early years education, and hence create working relationships in joint research programs and projects in Malawi. I also hope that the award will expose me to wider opportunities to participate in both local and international fora. I have keen interest in promoting gender equality in science and technology and hope to acquire a better understanding of pedagogical strategies and curriculum development issues in elementary science and technology education to prepare young Malawian children, girls in particular, for careers in science and technology in this new knowledge-based economy.
