During the last 6 years I have developed my career working in the humanitarian assistance in emergency contexts. Previously, I successfully completed two master studies in humanitarian and political subjects with an undergrad in management. As I have acquired higher qualifications and experience in my professional life, my interest and motivation keeps bringing me closer to a hands-on approach to the implementation of support.

The idea of becoming a nurse is not new to me, yet I opted for different opportunities in the past that kept me busy developing other professional areas. It was difficult to start a full time study as I was becoming more invested in my career projects. I have been working for an organization called Doctors without Borders since 2011. During this time I completed missions in Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Haiti and Belarus as Project Manager and Finance Coordinator.

My commitment with the humanitarian assistance comes in my beliefs. The provision of health aid becomes primary to our human needs during times of emergencies. A patient means not only a sickness to be diagnosed and cured in its symptoms. That part is taken care of by the respective specialists. A nurse will take care of the other integral needs this patient has as a consequence of its illness and by doing so, the nurse assist in upholding their human dignity. A nurse will also play a role as educator and/or researcher to promote and upkeep healthy communities and alleviate suffering.

The different contexts, cultures, religions and needs in which my different posts had taken place, have reshuffle the order of priorities in my life, the things I value the most and how I believe I can add to the improvement of our world. The humanity and solidarity contained in the profession of nursing engages me as a person who has also been a patient in the past and have firsthand experience of the importance of this profession.

I believe this brief summary of my background and field experience demonstrates my suitability and competence to successfully complete the program in nursing. I feel a strong affinity with nursing and am committed to the values entailed in the nursing work and look forward to being accepted in this nursing program at the Xuzhou Medical College to shift my career into this field.

Thank you for your consideration. Lucia Blanco Soto
