You mean the most affordable one year/semester non-degree Chinese language course or degree course of Chinese language you want? There are Chinese language courses/majors available from non-degree to the doctoral degree. Therefore, you’d better have a clear description of your purpose to learn Chinese. Just for getting some Chinese knowledge or for further degree study in China, or just for visa extending? Alright, to let all kinds of Chinese language applicants who want the cheapest course benefit from this article, I will explain how to find the cheapest Chinese language course as detailed as I can. No matter what purpose you want to apply for Chinese language courses at the cheapest cost, I hope this answer can help you.

1). The most affordable one year/semester Chinese language course in China [self-sponsored]

I have many friends studying in different universities in China. One of my friends studied in Jiangsu Vocational College of Medicine, there the tuition just 4,000yuan/year and the dorm fee just 1,200yuan/year. But I am not sure if this school enroll international students this year or not. For universities that I am sure still recruit new students in 2021, I recommend Nanchong Vocational and Technical College and Nanchang University. You can study the Chinese language with the cheap tuition of 4,500yuan, and their dorm fee also cheap.

I have seen some advertising said some schools only charge 3,000yuan tuition per year. But since I have no friends who studied in those unfamiliar schools, or these ads are not from the official, I can’t do recommend them here as I can't tell the truth of these advertisements. Because we all know there are some scammers on the internet, I have to make sure that my recommendations are reliable in case any reader suffers any property damage because of me.

And if you just wanna improve your Chinese, no matter it’s an online course or an offline course, I can recommend the most affordable Chinese language class from Beijing Chinese Language and Culture College 2021 September intake which costs 2,500yuan tuition only with good teaching quality and results.

2). The cheapest one year/semester Chinese language course in China [with scholarship]

Guess what, I not only find you the schools’ names with scholarships available but also find you the scholarship details from some company pages. Just check the one year/semester Chinese language class scholarship list as below.

  1. [Full Scholarship] China University of Petroleum – Beijing
  2. [Full Scholarship] Nanchong Vocational and Technical College
  3. [Full Scholarship] Zhejiang A & F University
  4. [Partial Scholarship] Shandong Water Conservancy Vocational College

Of course, scholarship programs have a little higher entry requirement than a self-sponsored Chinese language course. You can check all information from the link I attached above.

If you just need an online Chinese language course no matter due to COVID-19 that international students can’t enter China for a long time or because you have no time to attend the offline course, you can try to apply for a tuition-free online Chinese language course. Since it’s online, tuition-free = full free. Am I right? In this case, my recommendations are Harbin Normal University, Zhengzhou University of Light Industry, Northeast Forestry University

All of the Chinese study scholarships I recommended here are available this year, but not sure if it is available from next year or after the pandemic.

3). The cheapest bachelor degree Chinese language course/major in China [with scholarship]

If you want to apply for a 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese Language Scholarship, please refer to the programs below.

  1. [Full Scholarship] Southeast University
  2. [Partial Scholarship] Tianjin Foreign Studies University
  3. [Partial Scholarship] Zhejiang University of Science and Technology
  4. [Partial Scholarship] Dongguan University of Technology
  5. [Partial Scholarship] Zhejiang Normal University

BTW, if you apply for a CSC scholarship, you will also have the opportunity to study a one/two-year Chinese language course for free before you start your major study of bachelor/master/Ph.D. For a pure Chinese language full scholarship, you can also consider applying for the Confucius Institute Scholarship.

4). Difference between online and offline Chinese language course during the epidemic period

If you wanna join a Chinese language course in 2021 and you are not in China right now, then most probably you will get an online course if you apply for any non-degree course. And the stipend will not be transferred to you as you are not living in China even if you got a full scholarship.

If you are in China and wanna join a non-degree Chinese language course, then you have the chance to attend an offline Chinese language course with a visa extending if you apply for an offline Chinese language course. Of course, if you wanna study online courses only, just apply for an online course without a visa extension. But what is certain is that as long as the school extends the visa for you, then you will be strictly managed by the school and all online courses are without visa extending.

5). Can I apply Chinese language course for a visa extension?

If your visa is due to expire in a very short time, then finding a school with a fast pre-admission rate is more important than finding a Chinese language school with cheap tuition. And please note that most schools will not help extend your visa to a student visa in advance till the beginning of the new semester, which means that you may need to get a T visa by yourself first. But fortunately, I have a friend who applied to Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, and the school issued him a pre-admission letter fast so that he can go for a T visa immediately. And also, the teacher said can help him extend his student visa before next semester which is really cooperative and friendly.

If you want to change from a work visa/tourist visa to a student visa, then you need to communicate with the school teacher in advance whether they can do this locally or you need to change to a T visa by yourself first. By the way, it is illegal to work on a student visa from the perspective of current Chinese law.

6). Where can I find more types affordable Chinese language course in China?

As for more professional advice, I can recommend you several professional counselors with very cheap service fee. I am very fortunate that I successfully came to China to study through their company years ago. They will match the most suitable school for you according to your age, nationality, Chinese level, academic background, and school requirements. I hope you can find the most suitable and affordable Chinese language course for yourself as soon as possible. Best wishes!

Selecting a Chinese language school with quick pre-admission is more crucial if your visa is about to expire soon than selecting one with affordable fees.
